We are seeking applications from health and safety professionals for a newly created role located in Victoria. Previous experience in a HSEQ role within the resources and construction industries is required. 

The Role: 

An opportunity exists for an experienced and influential safety professional to join the GCS team. The role will service multiple projects and sites and will be based at our Melbourne office working Monday to Friday.

The role: 

  • Develop strong relationships across all levels of the business to effectively influence and implement the GCS safety standards and culture.
  • Effectively implement and maintain GCS HSEQ system requirements including induction and training, document control, hazard and risk identification, hazard and risk control, action management, incident reporting, incident analysis, contractor management and other actions directed by the HSEQ Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Develop & maintain policies, procedures & SWP’s that become part of the HSEQ Management system.
  • Report and analysis of all related HSEQ performance to identify opportunities for improvement and implement action plans.
  • Review reports of near misses, injuries and property damage to determine causes and prevent recurrences.
  • Assist in the maintenance and review of Hazard Risk Registers for all operational sites.
  • Advise and direct staff on HSEQ regulations and compliance issues.
  • Research and track safety regulations to develop safety policies and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct and assist operational staff with workplace and site inspections.
  • Conduct FFW testing, ergonomic, function job assessments as required.
  • Conduct and assist operational staff with JSA’s, risk assessments, safe work method statements (SWMS) and ITP’s as required.
  • Communicate HSEQ notifications related to issues as and when they arise; through toolbox meetings, safety committee meetings and memorandums.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of annual safety improvement plan.
  • Participate in the internal HSEQ audit program by conducting system audits, developing audit checklists, and writing audit reports.
  • Assist management with action outcomes from internal and external audits.
  • Provide HSEQ overview & manage contractors inclusive of conducting contractor inductions and audits.
  • Perform accident investigations and reporting for accidents, on-the-job injuries, and other HSEQ-related complaints to determine accident cause, contributing factors, and corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Assisting with the management of subcontractors and QA/QC

Experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in a similar role.
  • Previous work history within Construction, Mining and/or Oil & Gas Industries.
  • Exposure to HSEQ management systems.
  • Experience interpreting and advising on WHS legislation and Australian Standards.
  • Exposure to Workers Compensation and RTW coordination (desirable).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous experience using the MYOSH system (desirable).
  • Valid Australian work rights.

To be considered for this role you require the following qualifications: 

  • Advanced Diploma in WHS or Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety - essential.
  • Internal Auditor Training – Management Systems
  • ICAM / TapRoot Incident Investigation Training.
  • Construction Industry Safety Awareness Training Card (White Card).
  • Current Driver’s Licence - minimum of C Class (manual) required.
